Global Seminar on Animal Welfare

The World Veterinary Association and World Animal Protection in close collaboration with the Korean Veterinary Medical Association are preparing a Global Seminar on Animal Welfare to take place during the 33rd World Veterinary Congress. The objective of the global seminar on animal welfare is to highlight the importance of animal welfare in the veterinary profession and the challenges, opportunities and potential roles and responsibilities that the science of animal welfare presents to veterinarians.

4th WVA Global One Health Summit

The WVA with the high-level support of FAO, OIE and WHO are organizing the 4th WVA SUMMIT on One Health Issues that will take place on 29th August 2017, 13:00-18:00 during the 33rd World Veterinary Congress.

The aim of the 4th Summit meeting is to focus on global actions and implementation plans to fight Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) moving forward from awareness campaigns to action plans.

This 4th Summit follows the 1st Summit held in Cape Town, South Africa in 2011 on rising awareness on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and its impact on the health and welfare of people, animals as well as on the environment. The 2nd Summit was held in Prague in 2013 on “Global Well-being - a Partnership of Animal and Human Health” and focused on strengthening institutional collaboration, partnerships for effective prevention, control and emergency response, and cooperation between animal and public health education and research. The 3rd Summit was held during the 32nd World Veterinary Congress in Istanbul on the theme of “One Health – concrete actions in the field of Animal Health”.

WVA Global Conference on Quality Assurance in Veterinary Education

The World Veterinary Association is preparing a Conference on Quality Assurance in Veterinary Education to take place during the 33rd World Veterinary Congress. This conference is a first step to deliver the WVA long-term vision for WVA recognition of Veterinary Education Establishments (VEEs) assessments for specific competencies in veterinary education. The objective of this conference is to convene a global working session for accreditors of veterinary programs, to learn from their experiences and to assess the current status of self-assessment and accreditation systems of VEEs in the different regions of the world.

Special Session for FMD and AI, sponsored by Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, Korea

Special lectures and discussion sessions highlighting the countermeasures against malignant infectious diseases in animals such as AI(H5N1, H7N9), the zoonosis that kills hundreds of people across the world every year, and FMD will be held under the sponsorship of Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, Korea. Seven specialists and panels including Donald KING of the Pirbright Institute in the United Kingdom and David SWAYNE of U.S. Department of Agriculture will be invited.
